Create A Web Diagram

A web diagram is a type of visual aide that represents the relationship among parts of a whole. Instructors often use web diagrams to help children grasp concepts and to make connections that they may not have been aware of otherwise. Teachers might create a web diagram template prior to presenting new material to the class and ask students to complete the diagram to demonstrate their understanding of the subject. Teachers can use blank web diagram templates or create their own.

Instructions

1. Draw a circle in the middle of a blank page. This is the source node, which represents the subject of the web diagram. Write the name of the subject or a short description, for example, "The Animal Kingdom."

2. Draw a smaller circle an inch or so away from the source node. This subnode will represent a related item, for example, "Phylum." Draw a line connecting the source node to the subnode. Consider using a ruler and compass to ensure that the circles and lines in your web diagram are neat and precise.

3. Repeat Step 2 until you have the desired number of subnodes. Label them with other related items.

4. Add subnodes to one or more of the original subnodes, if necessary. For example, the subnodes emanating from "Phylum" would be labeled with "Ctenophora" and names of other phyla in the animal kingdom.
