No need to save window paint for the winter holidays. It can brighten summer, too.
A little bit of change goes a long way, and window painting provides this little extra spice for many store owners. You're probably familiar with those painted window scenes you see during the holidays or the neon sales signs that many stores use, but window painting can have a lot of creative uses. Imagine having a restaurant's menu right there on the window, for example, and yet it can easily change from day to day. Window painting is fast and easy. Just be sure to use the right paint!
Instructions
1. Clean the windows thoroughly with glass cleaner. Wipe a cloth or paper towel over them afterward in tight, circular motions.
2. Draw your design on the window using a wax pencil. You can easily remove wax pencil from glass with some cleaner and a bit of rubbing if you make mistakes, but most mistakes will be covered with paint when you finish. You just need a sketch to guide your painting.
3. Use a roller to fill in large areas of color in your sketch. For now you are simply doing the flat, base colors of your picture.
4. Paint the highlights using a paintbrush. Your highlights are lighter versions of your base colors. You can achieve a transition between the different tones by 'feathering' your brushstrokes--that is, making a series of sharp, quick strokes at the edge of your shading that become thinner and disappear into the base color.
5. Paint in your shadows using darker versions of your base colors. Feather them to blend them into the base color if you do not want sharp shadows.
