Create Your Own 'Family Guy' Character

Pick bold colors to use on your "Family Guy" character.

Two reasons for the popularity of the TV show "Family Guy" are that it makes heavy use of specific pop-culture references and it's relatively easy to draw the characters. Some simple drawing techniques can give you a new character with "Family Guy" features, or a caricature of someone you know. You can even use these techniques to create an entire group portrait of "Family Guy"-style characters.

Instructions

1. Draw a large oval for the head of the cartoon character. Add a cross or "t" shape on the inside of the face to act as a guideline for facial details. The average male "Family Guy" body is based on a large, long oval. Create a female body with a thinner oval.

2. Draw the limbs with simple lines. Mark out guidelines for the shoulders, elbows and knees with oval shapes. Place the shoulder guidelines to the left and right of the upper chest, the elbows in the middle of the arms and the knees in the middle of the legs.

3. Create the hands with circle shapes and the feet with triangles. Thicken the arms and legs with parallel lines around each limb.

4. Draw the nose with a curved "C" shape and the eyes with circles about the same size as the nose. Add the ears with curved semi-circles on the left and right side of the head. Create the mouth with a curved line. Add pupils to the eyes with a small dot and eyebrows with a curved line above each eye.

5. Draw a male character's hair with a curved line around the top of the head. Add bangs with curved triangular shapes across the forehead. Create long hair on a female character with a curved "M" shape at the top of the head that comes down the left and right side of the face and disappears behind the shoulders.

6. Draw a simple button-down shirt on your "Family Guy"-style character with two triangles under the head at the top of the chest. Draw a vertical line all the way down to the waist and add buttons along the side of the line. Add the buttons on the right for a female and the left for a male. Create pants simply by adding pockets with a curved line to the left and right side of the hips and a horizontal line near the top of each foot.
