Build A Model Brain For School

Making a model brain is typically a part of most science curriculums.

Most biology classes in school will cover how the brain works and its anatomy. You may even be asked to make a model brain as a class project. There are a variety of ways this can be achieved.

Instructions

Play-dough Brain

1. Place a diagram of the brain's sections in front of you.

2. Purchase or make four colors of play-dough, one color for each of the lobes: frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal. Do not forget that you also will need to make one color for the cerebellum and one for the brain stem.

3. Construct the play-dough, forming the shape of a brain. The sections of the brain should be to scale, meaning the occipital lobe, cerebellum and parietal lobe should be smaller than the frontal lobe and temporal lobe.

4. Bake the brain model in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, for a few minutes to harden it.

Gelatin Brain

5. Purchase gelatin mix from the grocery store and all ingredients required to make your gelatin. Strawberry or cherry flavor will work best for this project.

6. Pour the gelatin mix into a brain mold. You can find brain molds at dollar stores and costume shops, particularly around Halloween.

7. Let it sit in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, you will have a red, gelatin brain mold.

Homemade Brain

8. Mix together two cups of flour, one cup of salt, two cups of water and one teaspoon of cream of tartar sauce. Stir until the mixture is smooth.

9. Stir in 1/4 of a cup of vegetable oil.

10. Place in a pan and cook on low heat, until it begins to clump.

11. Pour back into the bowl and let cool.

12. Shape the mixture into a brain. Use a toothpick or small knife to make the grooves in the brain.
