Decorate Bottle Caps

You can use bottle caps to create whimsical jewelry.

Bottle caps that have been removed from soda bottles are usually tossed into the garbage. However, you can save discarded bottle caps for use as a craft material in different art projects. In order to make the bottle caps look more beautiful for use in art projects, it is helpful to decorate the bottle caps. This can transform the caps from drab metal bottle caps into colorful and vibrant art materials.

Instructions

1. Lay a sheet of newspaper over your work area to protect your furniture from spills.

2. Place soda bottle caps onto the newspaper, arranging the caps so that the tops of the caps face up.

3. Paint onto the top of each bottle cap using acrylic paint and a size 2 round paintbrush. Using a small size 2 paintbrush will allow you to paint very small areas with the acrylic paint. This enables you to add detailing and intricate designs over the surface. Allow the paint to dry for 20 minutes.

4. Paint over the designs with clear glaze using a size 4 filbert paintbrush. Using a larger filbert brush will allow you to cover the entire surface without disrupting the paint underneath. Allow the top of the bottle cap to dry completely for 30 minutes.

5. Turn each bottle cap over so that the underside of the bottle cap is showing. Paint and glaze the underside as before if you prefer the underside to be decorated as well. Once dry, you can use the decorated bottle caps for your art project.
