Making your own art can show off your creativity
Art in your home can make a bold statement your tastes and interests. But, modern wall art can be expensive. Instead of buying pieces, make your own. It can be fairly easy, inexpensive and fun.
Instructions
1. Choose a fabric in a large, bold pattern for stretching over your canvas. Coordinate this pattern with your wall color. If your wall is white, try something in a bright color or a pattern that's multicolored. If your wall is already a bold color, try a pattern that's more muted or understated, like something in black and white. How much fabric you purchase is up to you as is how large you want your piece (or pieces) of art to be. Iron your fabric so you don't end up with wrinkles.
2. Put your frame together. At most craft stores, you can find sides for wood frames in varying lengths. The frames usually fit together easily with interlocking corners (sometimes you need to use a hammer to fit them together).
3. Stretch your ironed fabric over your canvas or frame. You'll want to fit the fabric to drape over the frame by a few inches because you'll be stapling the fabric to the back of the frame. Turn and fit the fabric to your liking.
4. Staple the fabric to the wooden back of your frame or canvas. You'll need staples every few inches apart to make sure the fabric stays in place. At the corner, pull the fabric tight and fold it so it doesn't bulge. Trim off any excess fabric.
