Crafts For Funny Hats For Kids

Wear your funny hats with your friends.

Crafts for funny hats for kids bring out the silliness of the day. Use a variety of materials for these simple projects that need little adult guidance. Craft a clown hat from paper, a reindeer hat from fleece material, a grocery store hat and a hat shaped like a pumpkin for laughs throughout the year.

Clown

Use the cone shaped hat for parties.

Curl a cone shape from standard 9-by-12-inch construction paper so its opening is about nine inches wide. Staple to secure and cut the bottom of the cone so it can be worn like a hat. Cut out paper dots about 1-inch wide from different colored paper. Children can glue the paper dots, pom poms and ribbon anywhere on the clown hat. Punch out two holes on either bottom side of the hat and thread yarn through them. Place the hat on your child and tie the yarn to secure.

Reindeer

Sew together a reindeer hat with gloves as antlers. Fill the children's knitted gloves with fiber fill for the antlers. Fold a 12-by-15-inch piece of brown fleece in half for the hat. Cut off the top three inches for material for the reindeer ears. Center a plate at the top of the remaining fleece material and trace it to form a rounded cap. Add 4-inch lines down on either side from the plate. Trim off the fleece, keeping only the traced area. Turn it inside out and sew around the cap. Be sure to leave the bottom open. Turn the cap right side out and sew the antlers onto the top. Cut ears that are shaped like tear drops and sew them on either side of the antlers.

Paper Bag

A paper bag hat can be crafted on rainy days.

Craft a silly hat from an old grocery store brown bag. Roll down the top sides of the bag to form the exact size you want for the hat. Instruct your child to wear the hat. Pinch the brim to adjust the width and secure with tape. Provide an array of materials, such as fabric scraps, stickers and pipe cleaners to glue onto the hat. Allow your children to experiment with their paper bag hats.

Pumpkin

A funny pumpkin hat works well for Halloween or harvest festivals. Cut green poster board into a 3-by-26-inch strip. Fold a sheet of orange tissue paper until it becomes a 20-by-15-inch rectangle. Gather it slightly and tape down a 20-inch side onto the green strip. Repeat with the two more pieces of orange tissue paper. Wrap the green paper around your child's crown. Paper clip or tape the green strip to secure. Hold all the orange tissue paper together at the top and wrap it with green or brown tap so it resembles a stem.
