Date A Feminist

Most women are feminists in one form or another. The work that women still need to do makes it necessary they be aware of women's issues. Feminism at its heart isn't about hating men but about equality and benefits both sexes. By showing your date you're pro-feminism, you prove you're mature, aware of her struggles and looking out for her interests. Read on to learn more.

Instructions

1. Study the history of feminism. You can't show identify with your date's concerns if you don't understand them. Start with the timeline in the Resources. Then read the three volumes of "Public Women, Public Words" edited by Dawn Keetley.

2. Learn about current issues in feminism so you can discuss them with your date. Feminism has become global with concerns about the rights of women in the third world, for instance. Women's health, ecology and lesbian rights are also issues concerning feminists.

3. Keep up-to-date on trends in feminism. The Feminist Majority Foundation has a comprehensive site with news about topics such as global feminism, reproductive rights and women's health. Reading blogs is another great way to know what feminists are concerned about.

4. Get involved in fighting for women's rights. Speak out against oppression of Islamic women. March in protests to make abortion legal. Sign petitions against legislation that's biased against women.

5. Support her in her activities to speak out against injustice towards women. Listen to her opinions and offer agreement or intelligent, informed counter-arguments when you don't agree.

6. Encourage her to get involved in the issues that speak to her most. Be by her side in protests and volunteer for women's causes together. Show her you don't fall for the man-hating feminist stereotype.

7. Treat your date with respect. Aim for equal input about where to go and what to do. Remember that feminism is really about equality between men and women.
