Create A Person Avatar

Your avatar is a virtual version of you.

Avatars are cartoon or three-dimensional images of yourself that represent you on forums or in online games. There are many different options for avatars, and you can essentially make yours look however you like. There are many websites that allow you to make avatars, and there are specific avatar builders for different styles of animation. You can have a "South Park" avatar, a "Simpsons" avatar -- or even one styled after the film "Avatar." Ultimately, your avatar is your representation of yourself.

Instructions

1. Choose a website that you want to use to make your avatar. There are many options, so take a look at each and see what they are offering. A few good options for a human avatar are Evolver, IMVU and Second Life. Second Life and IMVU are virtual worlds, where your avatar can interact with millions of other avatars.

2. Select a gender and preset face to start with. These don't have to look exactly as you picture yourself -- just in the right general area. Some avatar builders will let you upload a photograph, which can then be digitized to create a likeness of your face.

3. Select the appropriate facial features. On many websites there are options for different types of eyes, noses, ears and mouths. These can look as much or as little like you as you choose. If you are trying to create a likeness of yourself, you will probably have to settle for something that is similar to your face, not totally identical.

4. Choose the correct colors for eye and hair. Don't just stick with the standard eye color and hair color -- you can use these features to add some flair to your avatar or really bring yourself out in it.

5. Adjust the body proportions. Many avatar-building websites allow you to change aspects of your avatar's body to make it more accurate. If you have big arms, bulk them up, and if you're slim, trim your avatar's waist down.

6. Choose your desired clothes. There are loads of options for clothing, and websites like Second Life even have shops for different clothing items. This is the way you can really set your avatar apart. Express your individuality through your clothes, and search any online catalogs you can to find the best clothing for you.

7. Pick out some relevant accessories. You can usually add extra accessories to your avatar, which are something else that can really make your avatar unique. If you always play the guitar, or wear headphones, you can add these to your avatar to really make it ring true. Remember, less is more with accessories. If you go crazy and add everything, your avatar can look too busy. Think about how your avatar looks as a whole; remove things if the picture looks too cluttered.
