Create A Scrapbook With Children

Kids as young as kindergarten love to learn scrapbook. Regardless of age, scrapbooking can be a wonderful family activity and creative outlet. Young children can practice cutting and writing simple words while older teens love embellishing pages with metals, private thoughts and photos of their friends. Your children and you will cherish every milestone scrapbook, regardless of the age it was created.

Instructions

1. Pick a theme for your child's album. This can be a family vacation, a summer camp, a single school year or an album of all her friends.

2. Gather basic scrapbooking supplies: an album, scrapbook papers, scissors, a paper cutter, glue stick or adhesive and a pen. Choose your scrapbook papers based on your theme.

3. Make reprints of some favorite photos so the kids can feel free to cut and decorate the photos without damaging the originals.

4. Sit down with your child and explain the goal of the album: to create a personal album with all the photos and memories from the event or about the experience.

5. Work on the first few pages together. Depending on the age of the child, help him choose the photo(s) for the page and the paper.

6. Arrange the photos on the page. Decide which photo is the focal point. Help her mat the photos by trimming the photos in cardstock.

7. Attach the photos to the background paper using the glue stick or adhesive.

8. Write journaling on the page. You might need to help small children with writing but let older children plan what to write and use their own handwriting to illustrate the page.

9. Add small embellishments such as stickers, rub-ons, metal accents and even ticket stubs. Let the child decorate as they see fit.

10. Place the finished page in a page protector in the album.
