American Flag Art Projects

Use the American flag to decorate your gifts.

You can celebrate American patriotic days with art projects that are decorated with symbols of the USA, such as a bald eagle, Uncle Sam, or Old Glory. Children and adults alike can celebrate the history of America by giving the finished projects to friends and family members as gifts.

Scrapbook Frame

You can make a scrapbook frame for photos of family or friends at a patriotic event. You can decorate the frame with a Fourth of July theme by using hot glue to add objects like a small American flag, painted stars, or novelty plastic jewelry. You can make a frame for each person that is in the photo.

Jewelry

You can make a simple patriotic necklace by purchasing some plastic beads in red, white and blue. You can find these items in a craft store. Purchase some jewelry wire to thread through the beads. You can also purchase small wooden stars and paint American flag stripes onto them. To hang them from the necklace as a pendant, pierce holes at the tops of the stars; attach a metal-binding ring to it and clip it onto the necklace.

Painted Pots

Purchase some plain clay pots and red, white and blue acrylic paints. Draw the American flag design onto the pot using a pencil and then paint the design. When it is dry, add a layer of glossy white craft glue, which will give the pot a shiny look when dried.

Fan

You can use a fan during scorching hot summer days. The materials you will need to make a fan include wood paint stirrers, card stock in the colors of red, white and blue, and decorations such as star stickers and glitter. For the fan, you will need two 8-inch squares of card stock; you can choose any of the colors as the base color. Decorate each square using the star stickers or by making interchanging colors of strips. The decorated pieces of cards are then glued together with the paint stirrer sticks in between the cards. You do not have to leave the cards in the shape of a square -- you can cut them into stars, circles or any shape that you choose.
