Display Heavy Art In A Booth

Protect your booth visitors and your artwork by choosing proper display techniques.

Setting up an art booth involves creativity and planning. You need to ensure that the booth is safe for your visitors and secure all the art pieces, especially if your art is heavy. Heavy paintings, photographs, sculptures and installations present a hazard for the visitors, and may also get damaged should they fall during the exhibition. Secure your art pieces before you receive patrons and visitors.

Instructions

Display Heavy Paintings in a Booth

1. Place two screws on the back of each painting, approximately four inches from the top of the wooden frame of the canvas.

2. Get a piece of wire and twist the ends of the wire several times around each of the two screws. Repeat this procedure for each of the paintings.

3. Insert heavy-duty picture hooks in the artisan display wall. Use two hooks for each painting you want to display, because the weight of the painting will be more evenly distributed.

4. Hang the paintings with the help of another person. Make sure the paintings are stable.

5. Place spotlights around your paintings. Hide the power cords, so that the booth visitors won't stumble on these. Use tape.

Display Sculptures and Installations

6. Decide the placement for each of your sculptures or installations and install the stands for the pieces. The stands should be made of sturdy materials to support the weight of the sculptures. Place a sandbag in the base to help anchor the stand.

7. Place your sculptures on the stands and check if the pieces are stable.

8. If your sculptures are not stable, you need to anchor each to the top or the bottom of the booth. Use nylon fishing line to tie around strategic points of your sculptures. These points are dictated by the shape of your sculptures. Tie the other end of the fishing line around hooks which you insert in the floor or the top part of your display walls.
