Funny Crafts To Make

Use sponges to create a literal sponge cake.

Whether you need activities to celebrate April Fool's Day, or you are looking for a gag gift to give someone with a sense of humor, consider creating funny craft projects. There are several crafts that you can make that will surely get a belly laugh or at least a little chuckle from your friends.

Literal Sponge Cake

A literal sponge cake is an ideal funny craft to make for a birthday. To create the cake, stack three new sponges on top of one another, and glue them together. Once the glue dries, cut the sponges into a circle. Use real icing to ice the sponge cake. Embellish the cake with colored icing, sugar cake adornments, and sprinkles. Tell the recipient of this funny craft that you made her a sponge cake, and invite her to cut it -- she will laugh when she realizes it is actually a sponge.

Altered Pictures

Give an ordinary photo of someone you know, or even yourself, a comical makeover. Cut pictures of arms, legs, or facial features from a magazine. Glue the items you have cut out to the selected photograph. For example, replace the arms and the lips of the person in the photograph with arms and lips from the magazine. Embellish the photograph with silly images in the background, such as dinosaurs flying overhead or a cartoon character sitting next to the person in the photograph.

Water Ring

Similar to a buzzer ring, a water ring will surely catch friends and family members off guard, and give everyone a chuckle. To create a water ring, thread a decorative button onto the center of a pipe cleaner. The button will look like the decorative part of the ring. Wrap the pipe cleaner around your finger, and twist the ends of the pipe cleaner around a small piece of sponge. Wet the sponge and place the ring on your finger. When you shake hands with someone, the water will wring out of the sponge onto the unsuspecting person's hand.

Extra Large Hat

Construct an extra large hat from a grocery bag. Decorate a brown paper grocery bag with markers, stickers, sequins, feathers and anything else you think is appropriate to make the bag garish. Open the bag, and roll up the edges around the opening. Place the grocery bag on your head, and act as if nothing is odd about the adornment.
