Change The Needle On A Vinyl Machine

Change the needle on a vinyl machine to extend its life.

Vinyl machines, also known as record players, can easily become a music playing device of the past. However, if you still use your vinyl machine, you are likely very devoted to it and the music it plays. Rather than trade your vinyl machine in for an MP3 player or similar digital music device, a little maintenance will allow you to continue using it for years to come. Hold onto your favorite old music by giving new life to the needle on your vinyl machine.

Instructions

1. Find a replacement vinyl needle. Look at online auction sites that specialize in music or visit your local antique shop or auctioneer. Become familiar with the kind of needle you will need before you start searching for a new one. Vinyl machines have different needles based on the manufacturer, so it is vital that you find the right replacement needle for your machine.

2. Remove the plastic cartridge containing the current, worn out needle. This can be accomplished by holding the cartridge steady and using a pair of needle nose pliers to gently pull the needle out of the cartridge.

3. Insert the new needle into the cartridge, but never force it into the cartridge.

4. Place a test record on the machine and play it. You probably won't need to make adjustments, but be prepared to slide the needle deeper into the cartridge if the vinyl machine is not working properly.
