Clean A Plexiglass Patio Roof

Patio roofs made of Plexiglass allow homeowners to enjoy unobstructed views of the sky until the Plexiglass becomes dirty. Dust, leaf litter, tree sap and other debris can cloud the Plexiglass. Cleaning the patio roof requires the use of non-abrasive cleaners, as Plexiglass is susceptible to scratching. Cleaning the inside and the outside of the roof on the same day will make the process easier. Clean your Plexiglass patio roof at least once a year.

Instructions

Interior

1. Lay a plastic drop cloth under the Plexiglass patio roof to protect the flooring and furniture while you clean.

2. Drape a clean, soft cloth over the bristled end of a broom or a sponge mop head. Secure the cloth with a rubber band, and spray it with household glass cleaner.

3. Raise the broom until the cloth meets the patio roof interior, then move it back and forth over the entire surface of the Plexiglass to remove any built-up dust.

4. Replace the cloth with a clean one and secure it with the rubber band. Go over the interior roof surface with the dry cloth to remove any glass cleaner residue.

Exterior

5. Set up a ladder near the patio and climb as high as you need to in order to reach the roof without disregarding the safety warnings on the ladder. Spray the Plexiglass patio roof with a garden hose to rinse off any leaf litter or other debris.

6. Fill a bucket with water from the hose. Add enough liquid dish soap to create suds. Dip a sponge into the soapy water and scrub the entire surface of the patio roof. Move the ladder around to the other side of the patio if you cannot reach certain areas, or use a long-handled mop instead of a sponge.

7. Rinse the sponge and the roof with the garden hose. If any stains from tree sap or other dirt remain, dampen the sponge with a citrus cleaner and scrub the stains until they are gone. Rinse the spots with the garden hose.
