Act Government Grants

The Australian Capital Territory government offers grants for individuals, communities and organizations to support projects within the territory. Grants administered by the ACT government include funding for programs sponsored by government agencies such as the Planning and Land Authority, Chief Minister's Department and Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water. ACT government grants help recipients pay for health promotions, sports projects and arts events. Eligibility and funding guidelines vary from program to program.

Eligibility

Each ACT government grant program has its own eligibility criteria. While certain programs extend eligibility to individuals, others only provide funding for organizations. Depending on specific grant guidelines, organizations may be required to submit information about their history, purpose and goals. The majority or programs do not require organizations to be incorporated. Grant programs that only extend eligibility to incorporated organizations may require applicants to submit additional information, such as financial statements, insurance documentation, certificates of incorporation or annual reports.

Funding

The ACT government offers grants in two categories, City and Territory Services and Health and Community Wellbeing. Each category includes multiple grant programs. The agency administers grants to support health promotions, sports initiatives, arts projects and tourism programs. Each program has its own budget, setting limits for initial funding and subsequent rounds of support. The ACT government does not offer funds to cover retroactive spending by an organization. Certain grant guidelines require recipients to credit the ACT government as a sponsor in literature or events related to the funding proposal.

Health and Community Wellbeing

The Health and Community Wellbeing category offers funding for a range of initiatives, from health promotions to educational programs. The Adult and Community Education grant program helps support adult education projects, while the Childcare Center grants program offers money to nonprofit child-care operators to support projects related to meeting compliance requirements. The Health Promotion grant program helps organizations pay for health-related initiatives that address issues such as sun protection, physical activity, smoking prevention or healthy nutrition.

City and Territory Services

The City and Territory Services category includes grants for programs such as arts events and tourism development. The ACT Arts Fund offers funding for public art exhibitions, festivals and arts facilities. Individuals and organizations can receive funding through the Climate Change Grants program to pay for projects that help reduce greenhouse gas emissions or raise public awareness about climate change. The Australian Capital Tourism Events Assistance Program helps communities and organizations pay for the marketing and development of tourism initiatives. Sports organizations can apply for funding through the Sports and Recreation Grants program to pay for the development of community recreation projects or to help fund operational expenses.
