Artist Theme Party Ideas

Almost all children are artists who would enjoy a party filled with artistic inspiration and activities.

Kids love to be creative, and parties are no exception. A successful artist theme party should have plenty of art-related activities, supplies and artistic inspiration. Art related games can even come into play, making art fun and accessible, and offering the chance for any child to make a beautiful work of art.

Art is Messy

Preparing for an artist theme party means preparing for a mess. Collared button-up shirts, worn backwards and buttoned near the top, are simple yet effective smocks for kids. Visit a local thrift shop for a cheap supply. Drop cloths will also come in handy.

Art Stations

Tables set up around the room or the yard to designate different art stations will keep things organized and prevent crowding. Each station should have different methods of expression. One area can feature painting with easels and painting supplies, one area can feature modeling clay, and another area can be designated for glue, glitter, and craft supplies. Some kids may express themselves better with architectural shapes, so a building area might go over well.

Other art ideas include digital photography, with an older child or adult manning a computer station to print out the results or a sewing station where supervised kids can make their own easy drawstring bags using pre-cut fabric. Recycled sheets, old jeans or clothing make super cheap materials.

Artist Theme Game Ideas

Fill squirt guns or small balloons with thinned washable paints and have kids create a painting by throwing or squirting paint at individual poster boards. Since this isn't a skill-based activity, any kid can win. Take a vote to see which painting is most appealing.

A Pictionary type game is perfect for an artist theme party. Divide the kids into teams and provide a basket of ideas for the kids to draw. One team member takes an idea from the basket and attempts to draw it. The team that correctly guesses what the artist is trying to draw wins a point, and the game continues until everyone has had a turn to draw.

Art Show

At the end of the party, set up an art show for arriving parents. A clothesline and clothespins is perfect for displaying pictures. Kids can take their creations home when they leave.
