Beta testing is an essential process in the development of video games. The need for beta testers is at an all-time high because of the rapid expansion of the game industry. There are many different ways to become a beta tester. Some require years of dedication and training while others require nothing more than experience and luck. Beta testing can be both a recreational and a professional position.

Experience Based Method


1. Gain experience about a system by researching everything about it.


2. Gain additional experience by playing video games on the system.


3. Gain more experience by playing multiplayer games online.


4. Watch video game forums for opportunities to become a beta tester. Apply for positions-most of which will be voluntary.


Educational Based


5. Attend college or university to become a video game designer, producer, developer or programmer.


6. Obtain a degree in one of the technical concentrations.


7. Apply for a position as a beta tester for a video game company.


Writing Based


8. Attend college or university for a degree in journalism, creative writing or a similar concentration.


9. Obtain an associate's or bachelor's degree in one of the previous concentrations.


10. Get a job as a video game reviewer-while game reviewing and beta testing are two different things, both get to play games before they are released and are essential in catching glitches in the programming which is the primary responsibility of beta testers-or beta tester for a publication.


Internet Based


11. Start a blog dedicated to video games.


12. Gain a following of subscribers on the blog.


13. Gain a large enough following of subscribers to make a profit off of blog.


14. Convert the blog into a website.


15. Gain a large enough following on the website to become a game reviewer and beta tester.
