Becoming a professional video game tester isn't easy since many people would like to have that job. You need to distinguish yourself as a player with various games, you need to have access to a variety of different consoles and systems, and, perhaps most important, you good communication skills and an ability to offer helpful feedback as to what you've seen and done. You are essentially a paid game reviewer.

1. Become an accomplished, knowledgeable video gamer. It's important that you become familiar with the gaming community, the classic games and systems, and current games out on the market. You need to be competent and "well read" on video games, much the same way a film critic should be for movies.
2. Go to the game manufacturer's web pages and see whether they need game testers. The ads may be on the more popular pages, but more often they're under the "jobs" or "careers" section of the website. Most people think they have what it takes to be a video game tester, and advertising open positions may lead to a mad rush.
3. Submit your resume and work history. Make sure that you include any video-gaming accomplishments and that your resume looks professional. Even if your work history isn't strictly in the video-gaming circuit, you should try and show the skills that you have to offer as a game tester, and the facilities you have at home.
