Create Flash Claymation Movies

Flash is well-suited to taking the still images of claymation and animating them.

Claymation as a filmmaking art is a unique and interesting way to tell a story. It allows for artistry both in the telling of the story, as well as the clay design and stop-motion animation of the characters. Adobe Flash is capable of creating frame-by-frame animation and is therefore suitable for turning the work of simple claymation shots into a completed film.

Instructions

1. Click "File," "Import" and "Import to Library" to import all of your picture sequences into Flash. This may take quite some time depending on the number of pictures you have.

2. Press "Ctrl" and "L" to open your library if it isn't already open and select the first image in your film and drag it onto the stage.

3. With the picture selected, set the coordinates to "0,0" in the Properties Inspector so that it moves to the upper left-hand corner of the stage.

4. Adjust the stage size in the Properties Inspector to match the size of your picture.

5. Right-click on the timeline on frame 2 and choose "Insert Blank Keyframe" from the context menu.

6. Drag the second picture in your movie out onto the stage and in the Properties Inspector set the coordinates for it to "0,0."

7. Continue adding frames, dragging out pictures in the sequence, and setting their position until your film is complete. Adjust the frames per second (FPS) of your movie using the Properties Inspector to suit your taste.
