You can make colorful, silly party hats by decorating basic cone hats.
Party hats not only provide fun and festive attire for your event, but they can also double as a craft activity and gift that guests can take home. Begin with the basic hat shape, then let the guests embellish their own silly creations with one-of-a-kind designs. If your guests are too young to make their own hats, you can also make several different party hats yourself and let the kids choose from the designs provided. Be sure to get plenty of pictures of everyone donning their funny hats for memorable scrapbook-worthy shots.
Instructions
1. Roll each sheet of craft foam into a cone shape. Glue the edges together to create a pointy cone appropriate to the size of the guests' heads.
2. Punch two holes in the rim of each hat, exactly opposite one another. Thread a piece of ribbon through each hole and knot it. The ribbons can be tied together in a bow beneath the chin of the wearer. Use two different colored ribbons for a wacky look.
3. Decorate the outside of the hat with buttons, feathers and plastic jewels glued to the outside of the hat. This step can be performed by each individual guest as they create their own personalized hats.
