Art Festival Display Ideas

You can create many different types of displays for your art.

Creating an art festival display can be a real challenge. To determine what type of display is best for you, consider the type of art and the environment of the festival.

Indoor festival displays are easier to create than outdoor displays because of exposure to the elements. Always make sure you contact festival organizers for any guidelines or restrictions before you create your display.

Folding Panels

Folding panels are easy and portable ways to display art at a festival.

You can create portable folding panels in many different materials to showcase your art for a festival or show. Panels are one of the more sturdy ways to display your artwork -- especially in an outdoor show.

You can make panels of wood lattice strips, large or small chicken wire, canvas-wrapped boards -- anything that will allow you to attach artwork. Just make sure you create a base that will keep the panels upright in the wind.

Leaning Ledges

You can lean art on ledges or shelves for your art display.

Take a cue from displaying art in your home to create a festival display. Mount long shelves or leaning ledges on existing walls to hold your pieces for a festival.

This can be a good choice for an indoor festival and is the best choice for artwork that you can't mount or hang. Make sure you include a small piece of trim on the front of the shelf or ledge to prevent your pieces from slipping off.

Wire or Clothesline

Hanging art on a line is another way to display your work.

Another way to present your artwork at an indoor festival is to string wire or clotheslines from posts or wall anchors to hang your pieces. You can use metal spring clips or clothespins -- anything that keeps the art secured to the lines.

One creative idea is to use wooden pant hangars to hang your work. If you line the inner bars of the wood with felt, it can protect your artwork from pinch marks.

Pedestals

Pedestals are terrific displays for sculptures and dimensional artwork.

If your art is dimensional, like sculpture, you can put your art up on a pedestal. Pedestals can be made of almost any material. Just make sure you make them from sturdy stock so they don't tip if they are bumped or blow over in a slight wind.

Wood pedestals are usually the least expensive to create in custom sizes to accommodate your pieces. However, you can also use ready-made plaster or concrete pedestals for display.
