Fun Photo Montage

Photo montage

A photo montage is a collection of images that work together to tell a story or create a unique look. Whether you create it using photo software for your computer or do it "old school" with scrapbooking materials and cropping tools, you can create a photo montage that will attract positive attention and inspire your friends and family. Here are some creative ideas for unique photo montages that will get you addicted to the process.

Time-Line Montage

A great idea for a graduation, birthday or even wedding gift, a photo montage that takes the viewer from point A to point B always makes an interesting gift. Collect images from the person's life from birth to present day, and scan hard copies as necessary. Although you could place the images in a line, you can also use them as random collage items, mixing photos from throughout the years. A refreshing way to look at a person's journey through life, a time-line photo montage maintains the viewers interest throughout the years to come.

Crazy Face Montage

Take a classic portrait and give it a humorous twist. Using either one model or several, collect numerous portrait shots of people making crazy and goofy faces. Set them up in a grid pattern for a crazy photo montage appropriate for use as a gift card or wall art display. Take this idea a step further and gather images of all the members of your family making funny faces for a unique family portrait montage that will leave viewers with a smile on their own faces.

Pet Montage

A pet is often considered a member of the family and as such deserves its own photo montage treatment. Gather or take photos of your pet in various activities from playing ball to sleeping on the couch. Mix full-body shots with close-up animal face images to give your montage more interest. Set the montage off by placing it on a grass-textured backdrop.

All Hands and Feet

Another unique portrait idea is to highlight the families hands and feet instead of their faces. Mix bare appendages and dressed ones (meaning socks and gloves as well as bare hands and feet) to add a four-season look to your montage. Set your montage up in a grid format with all appendages going in the same direction, or add more visual interest by having hands and feet going in various directions for more movement.

Color Code

Perfect to enhance a small colorful powder room or kitchen, gather a group of images that highlight one specific coordinating color. For example, if your powder room is blue, collect images of blue water, flowers, fruits and clothing. Crop the images to focus on the main color feature and format into a grid montage.
