Gift Basket Supplies For Stacking Gifts

Giving a gift basket as a gift makes a great impression. Gift baskets are large and appear to be very full, making the gift look more special and costly. Gathering the right supplies to stack the gift basket plays an essential role in giving the basket an impressive appearance. Look for most of the supplies needed to make a decadent and memorable basket at a craft store. Before buying the materials, decide on a color and theme to use as a guide for your purchases.

The Basket

Buy a basket a little larger than the array of gifts you plan to place in it. (Place the gifts in a straight line at home and measure the required length for the basket.) Choose a basket with a handle, which will make it easy to carry and attach the plastic wrap.

Pick a basket that compliments the gifts. For example, for oblong gifts, buy a shallower yet longer basket. Gift baskets come in various colors and materials, including wicker, plastic or metal. Try to buy a lightweight basket.

The Contents

Buy different-sized boxes to use for the stacking---the process used in gift baskets to create different levels and platforms to elevate and highlight each item in the basket. Sometimes, craft stores will sell a set of cardboard boxes made for this purpose, or you may have to buy them individually yourself. Don't buy all the same size or shape so you can create various levels. Purchase shredded paper or other confetti to use to fill in the spaces between the stacking boxes and to cover them from view. Buy some tape to hold the gifts in place so they don't tumble over once in place.

The Wrap

Buy a plastic wrap made for use in wrapping gifts and baskets. Use colored plastic paper or clear plastic to create a desirable look for your gift basket. Buy enough plastic that can cover the size of the basket itself, leaving some excess at the top for a bow or ribbon. Tie off the top of the plastic around the basket with a ribbon for a finishing touch.
