Create Your Own Art Board From Photos

Art board, also called bristol board, is a high-quality cardboard that comes with a smooth surface or a textured vellum finish. Usually sold in pads of sheets that measure at least 18 by 24 inches, art board makes a strong surface on which to display your photos, and it lasts for years. When you arrange and mount your photos on art board to hang on the wall, you create an original work of art and a focal point for your room. Use your imagination, and add as many or as few photos as you desire.

Instructions

1. Lay out the photos you want to use on your art board, using the smooth surface. Experiment with several arrangements, such as vertical, horizontal or in a block. Consider having your photos tell a story.

2. Photograph your layout with a digital camera or cell-phone camera. This will provide you with a guide so you can replicate your design. If you do not have immediate access to a digital camera, use a pencil to draw a light line around each photo to indicate its position.

3. Copy your selected photos using a copier or scan them into your computer and print them out. Trim to size with scissors. If you plan to use original photos, handle them with extra care.

4. Glue the copies or photos onto the art board. Apply adhesive to the back of each copy or original photo or directly onto the art board. Use only glue stick, spray adhesive or rubber cement, to keep your photos from rippling or curling.

5. Let your art board dry overnight. Check for loose edges the following day, and correct them with additional glue.

6. Hang your completed work of art after it has dried, using double-sided tape. You can also frame your artwork before hanging.
