Design Your Own Movie Posters With Photoshop

Movie posters have been a part of the marketing of films for decades. They have become in themselves works of art and highly prized collectables. Some people like to make their own movie posters based on and image and background of their choosing. You might think this requires the services of an experienced graphic designer, but if you have any version of Photoshop you can quickly create your own movie poster.

Instructions

1. Load an image that you would like to use for your movie poster background onto your computer, either by transferring it from a digital camera or other storage medium or by scanning it in at a high resolution (600dpi or more). Then load an image of yourself (perhaps in costume) that you would like to use in the poster.

2. Open Photoshop. Select "File" from the menu and click "New." In the dialog that pops up, change the increments to inches. Name the document "poster 1." Make the pixel width and height 11x17, the resolution 300 and click "OK."

3. Select "File" from the menu and click "Open." In the dialog that pops up, browse to the image you loaded for the background and open it. Right-click on the layer and click "Duplicate." In the dialog, make the "poster 1" document the "Destination" and click "OK."

4. Repeat Step 3 to bring the image of you into the "poster 1" document. Then go back to the "poster 1" document.

5. Select the top layer. Select the Rectangular Selection tool. Change the Feather in the tools options to about 1000 pixels (the exact amount will depend on the effect you want). Draw a selection around yourself in the image. Select "Select" and click "Inverse." Hit "Delete" on your keyboard. This fades the edges of you image into the background.

6. Select the Text tool from the toolbar. In the options at the top, choose the font style, size and color you want for your poster. Then type in the title of your "movie."

7. Select "File" from the menu and click "Save," saving it as a high resolution JPEG. You can now print it yourself or have it done professionally.
