Whether you are advertising a garage sale, a school bake sale or an event at your community center, you will find yourself facing a decision. Of course you want to use flyers to help advertise the event, but can you or your organization afford the hefty price tag that usually accompanies a professional graphic design company? If your budget allows you to hire a professional, than perhaps you prefer to delegate the task to someone else. If you are working with a more limited budget, you might choose to design your own flyer to advertise your event instead. Designing the flyer yourself is easier than you think and will lead to a significant savings.
Instructions
1. Decide what must appear on the flyer. The flyer is most likely advertising an event so be certain to include the name of the event, the date, the time and the location. If such information is relevant, you might also need to include a contact person's name and phone number or email address.
2. Decide what you would like to appear on the flyer once you've determined the items that must appear. If there is room on the flyer to be creative, what else would you like to include? A catchy phrase that speaks to the importance of the event is a nice touch. Perhaps you would like to include examples of what people might expect to see or hear at the event. Keep in mind that the point of the flyer is to get people to take notice of the event. Include whatever you think will help them take notice.
3. Use a word processing program to arrange the text you wish to include on your flyer. Experiment with font style and size to make the flyer visually appealing. Be sure the most important details (the name of the event, date, time and location) are easily visible. Don't overcrowd the text on the page. Leaving white space (blank space) around the text you have included will help passersby to quickly read what you want them to read. Stick with black ink as it is the easiest to see and also the most inexpensive to use.
4. Print one flyer from your printer once you think it is finalized. Do a final edit and then print the number you will need. If you wish the flyer to be more colorful, use colored printer paper, available in a multitude of colors from your local office supply store.
